India Photos and a Video

Well, here I am on my last day here in Bangalore, India after a week and a half.  It has been quite a trip.  I had a great time and met some great people but it was EXTREMELY hard being away from my family and I can’t wait to be home with them again.

I’ll write again soon about my actual trip and about the crazy traffic and driving, but for now I’ll link to some photos I took and a video …

The photoset is here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/kmturner/sets/72157604143468920/

Christmas with the Laidlaws

After the stay with the Bergman side, we drove to Longview WA to see my dad’s parents. It’s always great to see them! It was a great relaxing trip that was probably the last trip Kevin and I will take before we become parents! Thanks to everyone for keeping the secret and making it a wonderful trip!

My Grandparents live in a home built in the early 1940’s and consequently the ceiling in the basement is really low. My poor hubby who is 6′4″ kept hitting his head on various places around the room. My ever resourceful Grandpa decided to help him. This was my grandma’s old bicycle helmet. Doesn’t he look thrilled! His poor head. He kept saying that the house was built for midgets!

Christmas in Portland

A family tradition on my mother’s side that we just love to participate in is called “the box”. Yes, a little scary sounding, but it’s so great! My mothers sister Diane works for corporate Nike in Beaverton and throughout the year has the opportunity to collect free items that would be thrown away or given away. She brings these items home and puts them in, you guessed it, the box. This year we had 14 people participating and we each got 4 high quality items. We draw numbers and go around the circle in order, shutting our eyes and blindly reaching in and picking out an item. Each piece can be stolen 3 times then is “frozen”. It is so fun, especially when the men grab out something like a sports bra or gold lamay pants! We all came away with so many great Nike items. (the retail value of the average persons stash is over $150!) Thanks so much Diane!

Chichen Itza

On one of the days in Mexico, Kevin and I took an excursion to Chichen Itza, one of the modern 7 Wonders of the World. Our tour guide was very funny and since he was part Mayan he knew so much about the Mayan ruins and took pride in his history. There were pyramids, palaces, temples, ball courts and hundreds of Mexicans trying to sell us their wares. It was about 95 degrees with 100% humidity… it was pretty warm. We both would recommend taking the few hours to see this place if you are ever in the area. SR080869HPIM0852

One of the stops was at a cenote, basically a huge hole that has collected water. It was at least 100 feet to the water surface, then they estimate the depth of the water to be about 150 feet! Needless to say, we had to tread water the whole time. There were also small black fish that wouldn’t move away from the ladder when I tried to get it. Kinda disturbing!

Vive Mexico!

Kevin and I recently visited Mexico with good friends Luke & Stephanie Timmons and Mark & Anne Gould. We were in the Cancun area, more specifically, Riviera Maya which is between Playa Del Carmen and Cancun. It was beautiful and wonderfully relaxing! We arrived on Sunday October 28th and flew home on Sunday November 4th. The pictures we took (which total over 200) don’t do the places we visited much justice, so to get a real idea of what it was like, we’d recommend taking the trip yourselves! It was definitely worth it! HPIM0261

The hotel pool was huge! It was 3 tiered with small tiled waterfalls connecting them. You could start in one, slide over the waterfalls and end in completely different area. Each pool was probably 75-100 yards long and about 3.5 feet deep. The temperature was also perfect! Us preggos didn’t care so much, but 2 of the 3 pools had a swim up bar. If you look closely, just beyond the pool was the beach. It was great, too much chlorine and you could take a dip in the salt water and lay on the white sand beach. I think this is what Heaven will be like for me.

BSU vs. Washington

Morgan and I took a road trip with some friends and family up to Seattle last weekend.  We went there to see our Boise State Broncos play the Washington Huskies in a college football game.  We had a great time, but our Broncos really had an off game and didn’t execute and lost 24-10.  We were really disappointed especially now knowing that we are a better team than that Pac-10 opponent.BSU vs. Washington Trip 002

Trips!

Morgan and I recently took a couple of trips.  There’s nothing like getting away from the daily grind if only for a little while.

June 20-June 25th: Los Angeles, CA
HPIM0367Morgan’s cousin Lisa was getting married on the 24th in Temecula so we thought we’d go down a little bit early and visit some friends of ours (the Waters) in Pasadena.  It was a great time visiting with them (even with Chris’ hippie hair :-)) and we went to Venice Beach, Santa Monica Peir, Hollywood, The Getty, Bel Air, Beverly Hills, the Rose Bowl and just hung HPIM0454around Pasadena.  Just an all around good time with some great friends.

We then traveled to Temecula for Morgan’s cousin’s wedding.  It was a nice wedding on the golf course, so of course I got to play golf! :-)  Always a good time.  The wedding and the family was great.  Couldn’t have asked for a better trip.

Me Golfing in Temecula!!!

July 6th-July 9th: McCall, ID
After the 4th of July we decided to go and meet my parents up at McCall for some camping at Ponderosa State Park.  I have been going to Ponderosa every year for the last 20 years.  I absolutely love going up there and just relaxing in the mountains.  We took up my friends’ JetSki and had a blast using it all weekend.  On Friday we met some friends for dinner and then on Saturday Morgan’s parents and grandparents came up for a trip they were taking.  All of us relaxed both Saturday and Sunday on the beach just jetskiing and relaxing.  I really wish I could work remote and just live in McCall.  That’s my dream. :-)

We also have other trips planned for this year.  You can always find out what’s going on with the Turner family by looking at the calendar on the sidebar of this page.

End of July: Trip to Sunriver, OR
Mid August: Backpacking Trip (Kevin)
Labor Day Weekend: Camping & Golf
September 7-9: Trip to Seattle to watch Washington play Boise State in college football
September 15th: Morgan’s cousin Allison Strupp’s wedding in Seattle
End of October: Trip to Cancun, MX
